Photo taken in Summer, 2010 by Myra Ross shows Crystal Carwardine, left, Parks Crew Team Lead, and Heidi List, right, RMWB summer student, one of Crystal's beautification team members who had 'watering' duties at Helen Pochalko Park in Thickwood. Heidi was known throughout the neighbourhoods surrounding the park for her friendliness, her devotion to improving the park and her willingness to help everyone where she could. Heidi died on August 25th in a tragic car accident en route to meet her friends and family before returning to the University of Lethbridge for one more semester to complete her Education degree. On the morning of her departure from Fort McMurray, where her family has lived for many years, she dropped off some homemade cookies for her team members.

August 25th is a tough and sad day for the List famiy, but the Parks branch brightened their spirits this year with some memorials to former Wood Buffalo summer student Heidi List.
On hand for a special Parks branch staff meeting in Gregoire Aug. 25 were Beat List, Heidi’s father, her two sisters, Jennifer and Laura, and her mother, Sarah.
Last year, on Aug. 25, Heidi died at age 23 in a tragic, single vehicle accident south of Boyle.
A lifelong Fort McMurray resident and a fourth year summer student with the Municipality, Heidi was a well-liked and highly respected member of the Parks crew who was in her final year of study at the University of Lethbridge for her teaching degree.
This year, Heidi’s crew boss, Crystal Carwardine of the Parks branch, presented Heidi’s family with an engraved memorial plaque that will be placed in the Municipal garden at Helen Pacholko Park in Thickwood. Heidi was a regular beautification caretaker at the park during the summer months.
Also, Alice Lerchs of CUPE 1505 made a second presentation, a certificate stating that a one-time, $500 Heidi List Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a CUPE scholarship applicant this month (September).
Della Kerfont, CUPE’s Full Time Officer, added that the executive will be making a motion at the September membership meeting that a $1,000, permanent, Heidi List scholarship be awarded in her memory annually to an education student.
On Sept. 1, 2010, the Municipal flag flew at half-mast from sunrise to sunset to mark her funeral.
