Lisa Bolton

Support Services/Lead shop steward.

Educational Assistant with the Catholic School Board

Lisa Bolton, who has been a CUPE member in two provinces over a period of seven years, works at St Paul’s School in Thickwood as an Educational Assistant.

At St. Paul’s School for almost two years, she goes outside every morning to supervise before school and then she works indoors during school hours.

And she loves her job.

“I love it!,” she says, summing up her job in three words.  “Working with kids lights me up inside and makes me hopeful for the future.

“I also love working with my colleagues and seeing their passion for making each day a positive and healthy one.”

She works with children who face educational challenges.

“I love working with kids who have behavior problems,” she says.  “I always give each child a huge smile in the morning because it may be the only one they get all day.”

Part of an active family, Lisa has lots to do when she’s not in the school yard.

“I truly enjoy being a part of my community.  I have three boys and four dogs, so they take up a lot of my time.  I am also on the Board of Directors for the Raven’s Junior Football  Association and lead shop steward in our CUPE Local.  I really enjoy the opportunities CUPE gives me to learn more and be a leader in my community.”

Lisa was initially leery about moving to Fort McMurray a few years ago.

“My husband came here for work and I must say I was leery about moving here having heard all the negative stories,” she explains.

“But I love it here and feel it is a wonderful place to live and raise a family.  “There are so many opportunities for sports and recreation.  And because everyone is from “away” it is a very inclusive community.

“Bottom line, I love the people!”
