The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo: Where we live, work, play and stay!

With its 40-year-history in the region, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) of Wood Buffalo comprises more than 1,200 municipal employees with a variety of job descriptions as well as more than 600 education professionals and support staff in both the public and Catholic school divisions and Keyano College.

Woodbuffalo CUPE members include Rotary House caregivers, Keyano College librarians and theatre technicians, cooks, custodians, educational assistants in the classrooms of both the Public and Catholic School Divisions, life guards at MacDonald Island Park, customer service employees at Wood Buffalo Housing, equipment operators and service personnel at the Fort McMurray Airport, technicians at the Waste Water Treatment Plant, road maintenance crews, bylaw and development enforcement officers and refuse and recycling crews at the municipal landfill.

We are permanent residents and ratepayers of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).  We buy homes. We shop at local businesses. We are ambassadors of our region and we welcome friends and relatives for visits from around the globe.

We care for your children in the region's schools and our children go to school with your children. We fix potholes in the roads. We ensure that your drinking water is of the best possible quality. We prepare the ice for the outdoor rinks. We create the culinary delights featured at events held at MacDonald Island Park. We clear the airport runways when it is -40 in the dead of winter. We volunteer for community events.  We are the public service work force that contributes to our quality of life within the region.

And, like everyone else, we pay our municipal, provincial, federal and school taxes.

Along with CUPE members across Canada, 615,000 strong, we of CUPE Wood Buffalo uphold a strong commitment to solidarity and the principle that all working people deserve dignity, equality and respect.
